Peppermint essential oil is beneficial for ailments such as asthma, colic, fever, flatulence, headaches, nausea, chest congestion, and vertigo. The menthol content in this oil is known to be excellent for relieving mental fatigue and depression, refreshing and stimulating the mind. It is also considered beneficial for the skin and is used in lotions to treat sunburn, itching, or inflamed skin. Peppermint oil helps combat bad breath and gum infections when used in mouthwash. When used in oil burners, it is not only therapeutic but also repels mosquitoes and other insects.
Usage: Fill the top of an aroma burner with water. Add about 4 drops of essential oil to the water, or use the oil in an aroma diffuser.
Peppermint is native to the Mediterranean but is now cultivated in various European, American, and Asian countries. Historical findings indicate that peppermint has been used since ancient times in Egypt, Greece, Rome, China, and Japan. According to Greek mythology, the nymph Minthe was transformed into the peppermint plant by Persephone, in a fit of jealousy. Pliny mentioned that peppermint was used to crown Greeks and Romans during festivals. In England, peppermint has been used in medicine for the past few centuries.
